Recipe: š‚hristmas Means š†ingerbread

I don’t know about your family traditions but in our house we grew up with the annual gingerbread making session.

With 3 architects in the family this meant a serious gingerbread house project, not just gingerbread men! We would have plans drawn up, the dough had to be cut to precision and the assembly was certainly not a job for the kids!

Decorating though…..that was all about the kids and their imagination!

This year we haven’t quite decided if we will do such a big project but we have started the season with these gingerbread men and shapes. So much fun!⁣

⁣⁣Here’s the recipe we used this year. Let me know if you give it a go.⁣

šŒš„š“š‡šŽšƒ:⁣

* Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. ⁣

* Beat in molasses, egg and water. ⁣

* In another bowl, mix together the remaining dry ingredients.⁣

* Gradually beat the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. ⁣

* Divide dough in half. Shape each into a disk; cover. Refrigerate until easy to handle, about 30 minutes.⁣

* Preheat oven to 170° C. ⁣

* On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough to 3mm thickness. Cut with a floured gingerbread man cookie cutter or any shape you like really!⁣

* Place on lined baking tray with plenty of space in-between each cookie.⁣

* Bake until edges are firm, 8-10 minutes. ⁣

* Remove to wire racks to cool completely. ⁣

šˆšš†š‘š„šƒšˆš„šš“š’:⁣

* 1/2 cup butter, softened⁣

* 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar⁣

* 1/3 cup molasses⁣

* 1 large egg, room temperature⁣

* 2 tablespoons water⁣

* 2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour⁣

* 1 teaspoon baking soda⁣

* 1/2 teaspoon salt⁣

* 2 teaspoons ground ginger⁣

* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon⁣

* 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg⁣

* 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice⁣

Decorate as you like! ⁣
